CASE STUDY

Gordon and Lynda Blair were living in a cottage in Ashtead, Surrey when they took the decision to move to a property that would be more suitable for them in years to come.

They choose Beechcroft’s White Lion Place in Cobham, a development designed for the over 55s, and have been living there for the last six months.

“We had a lovely little cottage on Ashtead Common but decided to move because we were looking towards the future,” says Mr Blair. “Our cottage had a steep staircase and my wife is beginning to struggle with her knees so we thought that it was better to move whilst we could, rather than waiting a few years and having to move.

“Initially, we looked at The Farthings in Leatherhead and really liked the apartments and Beechcroft’s sales team mentioned there was a development in Cobham so we headed over there. Cobham was somewhere we enjoyed visiting and we’ve eaten at some of the restaurants.”

Located on Portsmouth Road, in the heart of Cobham, White Lion Place is an exclusive collection of 30 newly-built and converted houses and apartments in a landscaped setting. Each home offers a terrace, balcony, roof terrace or private garden and both private and communal gardens are maintained by the estate management service.

“White Lion Place is a lovely place to live – and the people here are all very pleasant. One of the other owners organised a social group but, of course, that’s been put on hold during the current situation.  We enjoy going out on the balcony on a Thursday evening at 8 pm to clap for the NHS, though; everyone does the same and we all have a chat from a safe distance.

“During the lockdown we’ve been going out for walks locally – there is a park just behind the development and we call at a local café that is still serving take-away coffees. When we get back to the development, we head into the communal gardens. There’s a very nice garden area just below our apartment which has a couple of benches where we can sit in the sun and read the papers.”

“We have taken out annual membership of Painshill Park– that was one of the first things we did when we moved to White Lion Place. Of course, it’s closed at the moment, but we’ve visited a few times already and it’s only about 50 yards from home. There are lots of places to visit round here – as well as nice walks.”

“We are members of David Lloyd – and normally play tennis four or five days a week. We have a lot of friends at our old club in Purley so, before we went into lockdown, we went back there to play but there is a club in Woking, about 15 minutes away, and we can use the facilities there to play tennis. I also play golf and am looking forward to the time when I can get to play again.”

Any potential home buyers who wish to view White Lion Place are able to access video tours online – which reveal the size and the quality of design and of the fixtures and fittings at White Lion Place. Beechcroft’s sales team is also arranging online appointments via Skype, Zoom, Facebook or WhatsApp – or are happy to arrange telephone calls.

Prices range from £675,000 for an impressive three bedroom apartment with a private balcony in the development’s newly-built Malthouse to £860,000 for a two bedroom, first floor apartment with study and private balcony and impressive bay windows.
