CASE STUDY

Kevin, a 61-year-old divorcee, raised a few eyebrows when he decided to move to a bigger property. Bucking the downsizing trend, he’s swapped his house for a larger, not smaller property.

Kevin had been living in a two bedroom house in Walton-on-Thames for nearly two decades, waiting for the right moment to upsize. He had long dreamed of a bigger house with more rooms for the grandchildren and a garage so that he doesn’t have to park his car three streets away.

Kevin said, “When you reach a certain age, you no longer want to compromise. I’ve worked hard for the best part of my life, so I thought now would be a good time to finally enjoy some of the rewards.

“I’m a family man and buying a more spacious property would give me the room I need to properly entertain. As well a space, I really wanted a house that I would genuinely enjoy living in, and that my sons and their families would enjoy coming to.”

Determined to find a suitable option in the area, he looked at several properties in the Woking suburb of West End and came across Shanly Homes’ new development, Oaks Meadow. Kevin was pleased to discover a playground at the development and a park just around the corner – perfect for spending time outdoors with his two-year-old granddaughter during her visits.

Kevin’s three bedroom detached house has lots of outdoor space with a neatly landscaped garden, excellent for entertaining. For someone like Kevin, who doesn’t travel as much as he used to, being able to spend time in the garden was an important consideration.

I love having a large dining area, where I can host friends or family for dinner. Having a nice big garden is another thing I really like about my new house – now there is no excuse for not hosting barbecues in the summer!

Oaks Meadow is Shanly Homes’ new development in West End, Woking, comprising 84 two, three and four bedroom houses. The scheme is popular with a range of buyers, many of whom are families with children. In addition to the on-site playground and nearby park, Chobham Common, which is just four miles away, boasts breath-taking views and provides residents with another place to relax and enjoy the fresh air.

Woking is a popular destination for those working in London and Surrey, thanks to its convenient commuter-belt location and the range of amenities in the area. The town is home to The Lightbox, a public gallery and museum, hosting a variety of exhibitions all year round. New Victoria Theatre, one of the largest theatres outside of London, and Rhoda McGaw theatre are also located in Woking. Market Walk, a purpose-built covered market known for its high-quality locally sourced produce and street food, is one of the main attractions of the town centre, buzzing with visitors every day of the week.

Living somewhere with good facilities, a wide selection of things to do and places to go is very important to Kevin, and he is delighted to have found his dream home in his dream location.

Kevin added,“The brilliant customer service coupled with the quality of my new home really won me over. Thanks to Shanly Homes, I now have complete peace of mind and feel ready to start a new chapter in my life.”

Prices at Oaks Meadow start from £345,000 for a two bedroom maisonette. For more information visit shanlyhomes.com or call 01483 660370.
